Nye Beach
Newport, OR
Nye Beach anchors Newport's historic arts district, a compact strip of galleries, bookstores, and restaurants just up the bluff from the sand. The beach itself is wide and sheltered enough by the headlands on either side to feel calmer than the more exposed stretches north of town.
The arts district next door gives it more character than most Oregon coast beaches, well loved locally, though street parking gets tight in season.
How we score beachesCombine a beach walk with the Nye Beach district itself. It's one of the few Oregon coast beaches where a genuinely good bookstore and coffee are a two minute walk from the sand.
Metered and free street parking in the Nye Beach district, tightest on summer weekends.
A paved turnaround and stairway lead from the district down to the beach.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
Summer, June through September, is the busiest and driest season for both the beach and the district above it.
