Ocean Isle Beach
Ocean Isle Beach, NC
Ocean Isle Beach is one of Brunswick County's classic family beach towns, with a pier, a small strip of shops, and a museum dedicated to the sea glass and shells that wash up along its shore. The island stays quieter than the bigger Grand Strand towns just across the state line in South Carolina.
A solid, classic family beach town with a genuinely good rainy day option in the coastal museum, though the strict dog rules in the access lots themselves catch visitors off guard.
How we score beachesCheck the Museum of Coastal Carolina near the causeway if the weather turns. It's a genuinely good rainy day stop, not just a gift shop with a name.
Parking is permitted only in designated areas. Check current town signage for specific lot locations and any fees.
Public accesses are mostly boardwalk or sand path crossings over a low dune.
Dogs are banned entirely, at all times, from public access and parking areas. On the beach strand itself, they're banned 9am to 6pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and leashed dogs are welcome outside those hours.
Water warms into the upper 70s by August, during the same hurricane season, June through November, that runs the length of the North Carolina coast. The town stays noticeably quieter than the beaches just over the South Carolina line.
