Ocean Reef Park
Riviera Beach, FL

Ocean Reef Park sits on Singer Island, where a rock reef runs close enough to shore that snorkelers can reach it without a boat, a rarity along this part of the coast. Dune boardwalks cross from the parking lot to the sand, and a shaded pavilion gives the 12-acre park a settled, unhurried feel.
A shore-accessible reef this good is genuinely rare, though the free lot's limited size means a late arrival on a nice day often means circling for a spot.
How we score beachesGo at low tide for the clearest look at the reef, the water calms and the fish become easier to spot close to shore. Arrive early on weekends, the 200-space lot fills fast and there's no fee to offset the demand.
Parking is free, though the roughly 200 spaces fill quickly on weekends and holidays.
Dune boardwalks lead from the lot to the sand, a short and mostly flat crossing.
Dogs are not allowed on Palm Beach County beaches, including Ocean Reef Park, except for service animals.
Winter and spring bring South Florida's driest, mildest weather and the biggest snowbird crowds. Summer's heat and hurricane season, June through November, thin things out despite the warmest water of the year.
