Old Garden Beach

Rockport, MA

Family-friendlyScenic

Old Garden Beach is a small sand and popplestone beach on Old Garden Road in Rockport, next to a town park with picnic areas. Families like the calm water and the sailboats moored in view, and local divers use it too. It is one of the few Rockport beaches you can pair with a picnic on grass.

A sheltered cove with a park beside it is great for a low key family day, but weekend resident parking is a real limit.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Weekend and holiday parking is limited to residents, so weekdays are the easier bet for visitors. Bring a picnic and use the park next door.

Parking

The lot is restricted to resident parking on weekends and holidays, with limited on-street parking nearby.

Accessibility

A short walk leads from the road and park to the sand and popplestone shore, though the stones are uneven underfoot.

Pets

Dogs are prohibited on Rockport's town beaches from June 1 to September 15.

Weather & the best time to visit

The cove is sheltered, so the water is a little calmer than at the open ocean beaches. Weekday mornings in July and August are the quietest.
