Onset Beach
Wareham, MA
Onset Beach is the Wareham town beach in Onset Village, about 10.9 acres of flat sand facing the bay. Lifeguards work it from late May through Labor Day, and seasonal restrooms, showers and a concession stand sit close to the sand. The village's shops and ice cream are a short walk from the water.
Walkable village, real amenities and lifeguards, but the parking meters and weekend crowds keep it from feeling like a locals' secret.
How we score beachesThe big paved lot at the Onset Town Pier fills first on hot weekends. Metered street parking nearby is the fallback, so bring quarters or a card and check the meter hours.
A large paved lot at the Onset Town Pier plus metered street parking, $2 an hour from May 1 to October 1.
The beach is flat and close to the lots, but it is not rated ADA accessible and the sand itself is soft.
No dogs are allowed on the beach.
Lifeguard season runs from late May through Labor Day, and that is when the water is warm enough for a real swim. Buzzards Bay warms faster than open Atlantic beaches, so August is comfortable.
