Park Point Beach

Duluth, MN

Family-friendlyScenic

Park Point Beach runs along Minnesota Point, the world's longest freshwater sandbar, a seven mile finger of dunes and sand stretching from Duluth's Canal Park toward Wisconsin Point. You cross the Aerial Lift Bridge to get there. Public access points line Minnesota Avenue, from Lafayette Square to the Park Point Beach House and the Sky Harbor lot near the end.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Drive all the way to the Sky Harbor lot at the end of the point. The crowds thin out and the pine-covered dunes feel far from the city.

Parking

Free lots and street parking at the numbered public access points along Minnesota Avenue; the Beach House lot is busiest.

Accessibility

Short sandy paths lead from each access point over low dunes to the beach.

Weather & the best time to visit

Lake Superior rarely gets truly warm, but on hot August days the shallows along the point can reach the 60s. Watch for rip currents when waves build, especially near the canal.
