Pavilion Beach
Ipswich, MA
Pavilion Beach is a small town beach in Ipswich at the end of Bayview Road, looking out over working clam flats. It is a sheltered spot rather than an ocean beach, with calm shallow water and a sandbar that keeps the swimming gentle. The town owns the sandy areas, and public access to them is open.
Gentle water and a quiet, local feel are real pluses for families, but weekend resident rules make it awkward for out of towners.
How we score beachesResident sticker rules matter here. On summer weekends and holidays the lot and nearby roads are for residents only, so plan a weekday visit or come outside the season.
A small municipal lot at the end of Bayview Road has fewer than 30 spaces. From Memorial Day through Labor Day it needs a resident sticker on weekends and holidays, and is open to the public Monday through Friday.
The beach is a short walk from the lot over sand, with no formal ramp confirmed, so check on site for mobility needs.
Water here is calm and shallow, and it warms up faster than on the open ocean beaches nearby. Summer weekday afternoons are the sweet spot.
