Pine Knoll Shores sits between Atlantic Beach and Salter Path on Bogue Banks, home to the North Carolina Aquarium and a deliberately small number of public accesses, just 150 parking spaces total across the whole town. That scarcity is the point. It's kept this stretch from turning into another crowded tourist corridor.

How we score beachesThe Iron Steamer access tends to run quieter than the accesses closer to the Aquarium. Worth the extra couple minutes' drive if quiet is what you're after.

Boardwalk crossovers lead from each lot over the dune to the sand.
Leashed dogs (up to 16 feet) are welcome on the beach year-round, with no seasonal bans or restricted hours.
Water reaches the upper 70s by August, alongside the June through November hurricane season shared by the rest of the Crystal Coast. The Aquarium next door makes this a solid rainy day backup too.
