Playa La Vacama

Playa La Vacama sits on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic in La Altagracia province, a quiet, undeveloped stretch of sand that stays well off the radar compared to the resort beaches around Punta Cana. Coconut palms line the shore, and the relative lack of infrastructure is exactly what's kept it from turning into another all-inclusive strip.
A genuinely undeveloped alternative to the crowded Punta Cana strip, but the offshore currents and lack of lifeguards mean it rewards caution over a carefree swim.
Don't swim out far. Currents and occasional strong waves offshore have been reported here, and there are no lifeguards to rely on if conditions turn.
There's informal parking near the beach access points, reachable by car from the Punta Cana and Higuey area, though the roads in can be rough.
Access to the sand is mostly flat and informal, without a paved lot or boardwalk, so a short walk over sand or dirt from wherever you park.
The dry season from December through April brings calmer seas, while Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and is the bigger seasonal risk to plan around on this coast.

Lime Cay

Lime Cay sits about fifteen minutes by boat from Port Royal, at the mouth of Kingston Harbour in Jamaica, a small uninhabited sandbar island that floods partially at high tide and has no facilities of any kind. Sundays bring the biggest local crowds, with Kingston residents mooring boats offshore and bringing their own lunch and drinks for the afternoon.
