Regan Beach
South Lake Tahoe, CA
Regan Beach is South Lake Tahoe's oldest city beach, set in the Al Tahoe neighborhood off Lakeview Avenue. The water stays shallow well out from the sand, there's a playground and lawn, and the east end has the city's only off-leash dog water area. It's the neighborhood beach for a lot of South Shore families.
Shallow water, a playground, and a real dog area make it a local favorite, though fires and alcohol aren't allowed and it's small for how popular it is.
How we score beachesBring the dog to the east end and the kids to the main beach. It's one of the few spots on the lake where both are easy on the same trip.
A city lot sits right at the beach off Lakeview Avenue; check posted signs for current fees and hours.
Paved paths and lawn run from the lot to the sand, with a short soft-sand stretch at the end.
Dogs are allowed off leash in the designated dog area at the east end of the beach, not on the main beach.
The beach is open from spring through September and closed October through March. Shallow water here warms faster than most of the lake, so it's comfortable for kids by July.
