River to Sea Preserve
Marineland, FL
River to Sea Preserve straddles both sides of A1A at Marineland, a small stretch of undeveloped dune and coastal scrub between the more built-up beaches to the north and south. A short walking trail loops through the preserve side, while a simple beach crossover on the ocean side drops onto quiet sand most people drive right past.
A genuinely dog-friendly beach with no fee is a real convenience, though it's a small, plain stretch of sand rather than a destination beach in its own right.
How we score beachesCombine it with a stop at the Marineland dolphin facility next door if you're already in the area, the preserve itself is small enough to see in twenty minutes. There's no fee and no gate, so it's an easy add-on rather than a destination on its own.
Parking is free right off A1A, though the lot is small and limited. There's no entrance fee since the preserve is county-run, not a state park.
A short, flat beach crossover leads from the small lot to the sand. The nature trail loop on the preserve side is packed dirt, easy walking but not paved.
Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the preserve and on the beach itself, one of the more straightforwardly dog-friendly spots on this stretch of coast.
Spring and fall bring the mildest weather for the walking trail, while summer's heat and hurricane season, June through November, make midday visits less pleasant. Atlantic water here runs cooler than the Gulf side of the state, warmest by late summer.
