Rock Harbor Beach
Orleans, MA
Rock Harbor Beach is a small, marshy public beach at the Rock Harbor boat basin in Orleans. The harbor is a working fishing spot, and charter boats leave from the dock. It is also the site of a War of 1812 skirmish, when local militia turned back British raiders in 1814.
A working harbor with history and top notch sunsets, though the beach itself is small and marshy.
How we score beachesCome for sunset, when the harbor and marsh fill with color. It is one of the best sunset gathering places in Orleans.
A small lot serves the harbor. Check the town for current parking rules in season.
The beach is close to the parking area, with a level approach. The sand is narrow and marshy.
Summer evenings are best, with warm bay air. In fall the harbor is quieter and often clear.
