Sagamore Beach
Bourne, MA
Sagamore Beach in Bourne is a rocky Cape Cod Bay shore just north of the Cape Cod Canal, with wide views across the water. Two small lots serve First Beach and Second Beach. Kids spend their time turning over rocks and collecting shells and small critters. Lifeguards work in season, and a portable toilet is on site.
Rocks, shells, and bay views make it a good kids beach, but the resident only parking is a real drawback for visitors.
How we score beachesParking here is for residents, so visitors without a sticker should walk or bike in, or head to nearby Scusset Beach State Reservation, which has public parking and full facilities.
Two small lots serve the beach, one near the Standish Road and Phillips Road intersection and another on Sagamore Road. Both need a Bourne resident sticker, and parking fills quickly in summer.
The shore is rocky and uneven, so footing takes care and strollers will have a hard time. Walking or biking in is the way for visitors without a sticker.
Summer brings the lifeguards and the warmest bay water, but the crowd is moderate rather than heavy. Fall and spring suit rock hopping and shell hunting, with big open skies over the bay.
