Salt Pond Beach Park

Salt Pond Beach Park sits behind a natural reef that turns the water into one of the calmest, most swimmable lagoons on Kauai's west side, framed by the salt pans just inland where local families still harvest salt the traditional way. Families camp here on weekends, and the shallow water makes it an easy, unhurried place to spend a whole afternoon.
The protected lagoon and the working salt pans give it a character no other west side beach has, though the wind can pick up hard by afternoon most days.

A paved lot right at the park entrance off Lolokai Road usually has room, filling up only on the busiest weekends and holidays.
A short, flat paved path connects the lot to the sand, one of the easier beaches on the west side for strollers.
Dogs are not permitted at Salt Pond Beach Park, per Kauai County park rules.
The reef keeps this calm through most of the year, though summer's lighter wind and lower surf make it the season locals actually camp here overnight.
