Sand Beach (Acadia)
Bar Harbor, ME
Sand Beach is the best known beach in Acadia National Park, a compact crescent of sand between granite headlands. It is monitored for water quality, and the water is famously cold. An entrance fee or park pass applies, and the beach fills quickly in summer, so early arrival is the smart move.
An iconic Acadia beach with granite on both sides, though the fee, the crowds, and the cold water are part of the deal.
How we score beachesArrive early in summer, when the lot fills. Bring layers, since the air and the water stay cool.
A park lot serves the beach and fills early. An Acadia entrance fee or pass applies.
Stairs and a short path lead to the sand. Not wheelchair friendly.
Summer is the busy season, and the water is very cold. Fall brings clear air and fewer people.
