Scarborough Beach State Park
Scarborough, ME
Scarborough Beach State Park, at 418 Black Point Road, is a wide sandy beach with big surf and salt marsh behind it. The land is state owned but privately operated, so it charges its own per person fee and does not accept state park passes. Waves here are some of the most consistent in the area.
Big waves and a wide beach with easy parking, but the separate fee and weekend crowds keep it from being a favorite.
How we score beachesDo not assume a state park pass works at the gate. Go on a weekday to skip the lines.
A large lot serves the beach. A per person entry fee applies and state park passes are not accepted.
Paved lot, then a short walk over soft sand to the water. Surf can be strong, so conditions matter.
Summer is peak season, and the water is still cold. Fall brings stronger surf and quieter sand.
