Sea Breeze Beach

Sea Breeze is what's left of a Delaware Bay resort town that once had steamboats running in from Philadelphia and a forty room hotel with its own bar, all before the original building burned down in 1890. What remains today is an unpaved road, a scattering of homes, and a badly eroded shoreline that draws saltwater fishermen and birdwatchers rather than swimmers.
A genuinely evocative piece of Jersey Shore history that rewards knowing the backstory, but the erosion and lack of any real beach infrastructure mean it's a niche stop, not a swimming destination.
How we score beachesCome for the history and the birding, not for a beach day. The shoreline has eroded enough that this is a place to appreciate for what it used to be as much as what it is now.
The only road in, Beach Avenue, remains unpaved. Parking is informal along the road itself.
The unpaved road and eroded shoreline aren't suited to strollers or wheelchairs, and the beach itself has narrowed significantly from its historic footprint.
Bay water warms into the mid to upper 70s by August, though most visitors come for fishing and birding rather than swimming. The surrounding marsh and preserve land stay active with wildlife year round.
