Skylandia Park Beach
Tahoe City, CA
Skylandia Park Beach belongs to a 24 acre state park that the Tahoe City Public Utility District runs, about a mile and a half east of Tahoe City on Lake Forest Road. The sand is paired with a pier, picnic spots, and wooded trails behind the beach. It's the calmer cousin of downtown's Commons Beach.
A pier, trails, and elbow room make it a local favorite, though it's a drive or bike ride from downtown.
How we score beachesWalk out to the end of the pier around sunset. You get a long view down the West Shore toward Emerald Bay.
A lot at the park entrance on Lake Forest Road.
Short dirt and paved paths lead from the lot to the sand and pier.
The water is bracing until July, when the shallows along this shore finally warm up. The wooded trails make for a good fall walk once the beach goes quiet.
