South Beach is the other named access point on Point Reyes National Seashore's twelve mile stretch of open ocean beach, with the same rough surf and strong currents as North Beach further up the coast. Its own parking lot makes it a genuinely separate way in rather than just an extension of the same walk.

A genuinely good separate access point to the same long, dramatic beach as North Beach, held back only by the same dangerous currents that rule out swimming.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Pick whichever end, North or South, is closer to where you're staying, both reach the same long stretch of beach so the choice mostly comes down to convenience.

Parking

Free parking is available at the lot.

Accessibility

The path from parking to the sand isn't documented in detail, so allow extra time on your first visit.

Pets

Dogs are welcome; check posted signage for specific leash rules.

Weather & the best time to visit

Wind and rough surf are a near constant on this exposed stretch, with summer mornings running foggy before clearing.
