Spencer Spit State Park
Lopez Island, WA
Spencer Spit State Park sits on a rare sand spit enclosing a saltwater lagoon on Lopez Island's northeast shore, one of the few San Juan state parks reachable directly by car rather than only by boat. The spit is a genuine clamming and crabbing beach, and Cascadia Marine Trail sites make it a stop for paddlers too.
An iconic, genuinely car accessible Lopez destination with real sand and easy clamming, though it gets busy enough in summer that early arrival matters.
How we score beachesThe campground runs March through October, so if a summer visit is the plan, book well ahead. This is one of the more popular car accessible camping beaches in the islands.
A Discover Pass is required for day-use parking.
Dogs are allowed on leash, standard state park policy.
Summer is the reliable camping and beach season. The park is pleasant for a walk most of the year.
