Strawberry Hill Wayside
Yachats, OR
Strawberry Hill sits along the rocky stretch of coast south of Yachats within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, known among locals for some of the better rockhounding and agate hunting on this part of the coast. Tide pools here regularly turn up sea stars and anemones, and harbor seals often haul out on the offshore rocks.
Genuinely good rockhounding and reliable seal sightings, well loved by regulars, though it's rocky terrain rather than a sandy beach to relax on.
How we score beachesBring a bag for agates and check the tide pools carefully without touching the sea stars, since this stretch gets more foot traffic checking on the seals than most rocky beaches nearby.
Free lot directly off Highway 101.
A short path leads from the lot to the rocky shoreline; the terrain itself is uneven rock, not sand.
Low tide during summer, June through September, gives the safest tide pooling conditions; fall and winter storms churn up more agates.
