Sturgeon Point State Park

Harrisville, MI

HistoricScenic

Sturgeon Point State Park is a 76 acre park on a point of land three miles north of Harrisville, anchored by the white Sturgeon Point Lighthouse and its keeper's house, now a museum. The shore is stony, and a shallow reef runs far out from the point, which is why the light was built. Waves break over the reef on windy days.

A great little lighthouse stop, but the shore is stones and shallow reef, not a beach for lounging.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Pay the small fee to climb the tower. The view shows the reef stretching out under the water.

Parking

A small lot at the lighthouse, off Point Road.

Accessibility

A short, flat walk from the lot to the lighthouse grounds and the stony shore.

Weather & the best time to visit

The museum and tower keep summer hours. On stormy fall days, the surf over the reef is the reason to come.
