Styron Beach
Oriental, NC
Styron Beach is a half-acre county park tucked into Oriental, a tiny sailing town on the Neuse River, with a hundred-foot fishing pier and a small stretch of sand more suited to wading than swimming laps. It's the kind of quiet, local-scale spot that never shows up on a Crystal Coast top ten list.
Honest and unpretentious for the handful of Oriental locals who use it, but there's genuinely not much beach here and no real reason to make a special trip from further away.
How we score beachesBring your own everything. There's a portable restroom and a pier, and not much else, which is exactly the point for the handful of Oriental locals who use it.
A small free lot serves the park directly at 681 Styrontown Beach Road.
Flat, direct access from the lot to the pier and the small beach area.
Sound and river water here warms into the mid to upper 70s by August, inside the same hurricane season, June through November, that affects the rest of coastal North Carolina.
