Swanzy Beach Park
Kaaawa, HI
Swanzy Beach Park sits just north of Kaʻaʻawa, a modest grassy park favored by local families for its shallow, reef protected pool that stays calm even when the open water beyond gets choppy. Weekend camping permits bring tents out along the tree line, and the mountains rise steeply right behind the highway.
A calm, shaded little park that works well for a family afternoon or a permitted camping trip, though there's not much sand and no real facilities beyond the basics.
How we score beachesAsk about the weekend camping permit if you want to stay overnight. It's one of the more scenic county campgrounds on this stretch of coast.
A small lot sits off Kamehameha Highway right at the park.
Flat grass and sand lead to the water, easy walking, though the entry itself crosses some exposed reef.
Calm most of the year behind the reef. Winter can bring more wind and rain off the mountains just behind the park.
