Ted Harvey Conservation Area Beach

Dover, DE

UncrowdedScenic

Ted Harvey Conservation Area is built for hunters, anglers, and birders more than beachgoers, a stretch of managed wetland on the bay south of Kitts Hummock where the beach itself waits at the end of a walk along a raised dike from the north boat ramp. It's a genuinely wild feeling walk in, more marsh and open sky than sand until you're nearly there.

Locals Score🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

A real find for birders willing to make the walk, but it's a wildlife area with a beach at the end of it, not a beach with wildlife nearby, and that distinction matters for anyone expecting an easy day.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Bring a fishing license, hunting license, or boater registration if you have one, since any of those gets you in free. Otherwise you'll need a Conservation Access Pass at the gate.

Parking

Park near the north boat ramp off Kitts Hummock Road; the lot is free with a valid license or Conservation Access Pass.

Accessibility

Reaching the beach means a walk of roughly a mile along a raised, unpaved dike from the parking area, not a quick stroll from the car.

Weather & the best time to visit

The surrounding marsh comes alive with migratory birds in spring and fall, alongside the same June through November hurricane season as the rest of the bay shore. Hunting season in fall changes who else you'll share the trail with, so check current dates before a fall visit.
