Town Neck Beach
Sandwich, MA
Town Neck Beach is Sandwich's best known bay shore, reached by the long boardwalk that crosses the marsh at Mill Creek. The sand runs from grainy to pebbly, the water is usually calm, and boaters and kayakers work the creek mouth. The Cape Cod Canal jetty sits at the western end.
The boardwalk and creek mouth give it real character, though parking fills by mid morning on summer weekends.
How we score beachesCheck with the town before you go, because storm damage has closed sections of the boardwalk in the past. Go early on July weekends, the lot fills fast.
Town beach stickers or a daily pass are required in season, and the daily pass can be bought on site. The lot is small for the crowds it draws.
A long wooden boardwalk crosses the marsh from the lot to the sand. The beach itself is soft sand and pebbles at the tide line.
July and August are the warmest, with Cape Cod Bay water sitting in the high 60s to low 70s by late summer. Fall is quieter and clear.
