Turn Island Marine State Park
Turn Island, WA
Turn Island is a small, boat access only park best reached by a short paddle from Jackson Beach on San Juan Island, making it a natural first stop for beginner kayakers. A pebble beach sits at the main landing cove on the northwest side, with a second beach on the southwest, and a short forested loop trail circles the island.
Close, real, and a good first marine park for beginner paddlers, though it's still boat-in only and modest once you're there.
How we score beachesPair it with Jackson Beach; launching from there is the shortest, calmest crossing to Turn Island and a good introduction to paddling in the islands.
No road access; mooring buoys serve boats, a fee applies. No dock.
Calmer summer water makes the crossing easier for less experienced paddlers.
