Waiehu Beach Park

Wailuku, HI

SurfingUncrowded

Waiehu Beach Park sits along Wailuku's north coast next to the municipal golf course, a working class local beach with rougher water and fewer visitors than almost anywhere in West or South Maui. Fishermen and surfers make up most of the regular crowd, and the beach itself feels distinctly unpolished compared to the resort side of the island.

Locals Score🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

A genuine local surf and fishing spot with none of the polish or crowd of Maui's famous beaches, but the rough water keeps it firmly a locals only recommendation.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

This stretch is genuinely rougher water than most Maui visitor beaches. It's a real local spot for surfing and fishing, not a swimming destination for most people.

Parking

A free county lot sits right off Lower Waiehu Beach Road, easy to find space in given how few visitors make it out this way.

Accessibility

A short, flat walk from the lot onto sand and some exposed reef, manageable though the water itself demands caution.

Weather & the best time to visit

Winter brings bigger, more dangerous surf and stronger currents, while summer is somewhat calmer though still not a reliable swimming beach.
