Waihee Beach Park

Waihee Beach Park runs along a wide, windswept stretch of Central Maui's north coast, backed by dunes and a coastal walking trail rather than any real development. Strong current and surf keep most people out of the water, so this is a beach for a walk along the sand or a look at the mountains behind it more than a swim.
A scenic, uncrowded stretch for a coastal walk, but strong current and surf mean it offers little for anyone hoping to actually get in the water.
How we score beachesThe coastal dunes trail here is worth the walk on its own, especially early morning when the wind hasn't picked up yet and Iao Valley is visible clearly inland.
A free lot off Halewaiu Road serves the park, generally easy to find space in given the beach's limited swimming appeal.
A flat, sandy coastal trail runs along the dunes from the lot, an easy walk though soft underfoot in places.
Wind and surf both build through the afternoon most of the year, calmer in early morning regardless of season.
