Waimanalo Beach Park

Waimanalo Beach Park anchors the south end of one of Oahu's longest, widest beaches, nearly five miles of sand running north along Waimanalo Bay with Koʻolau peaks rising green behind it. The water stays gentler here than the more exposed northern stretches, and the park itself fills with local families on weekends more than it does with visitors.
About as much open sand as you'll find anywhere on Oahu with a genuinely local crowd, though there's little shade and the wind can be relentless by early afternoon.
How we score beachesWalk north past the park boundary and the crowd thins out fast. The beach just keeps going with barely anyone on it.
A free lot serves the park directly off Kalanianaole Highway.
Flat, grassy paths lead straight onto wide, open sand with no stairs or steep grades.
Trade winds keep afternoons breezy most of the year, while winter brings a slightly higher chance of rain blowing off the Koʻolau range.
