Walton Rocks Beach gives South Hutchinson Island a genuine 24 acre off-leash dog beach, open daily from 6am to sunset with a rinse hose and covered pavilion for after the sand and surf. It's one of the more generous dog beaches on the Treasure Coast, a real draw for anyone traveling with a pet along this stretch of Martin County coast.

A genuinely generous, free off-leash dog beach is rare to find this well equipped, though it's specifically a dog beach rather than a typical swim and sunbathe destination for everyone.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Bring your own leash even though it's off-leash, an 8 foot leash is required to be on hand at all times per park rules even when your dog is running free. Rinse off at the hose before heading back to the car, sandy dogs and upholstery don't mix well.

Parking

Parking is free, with a restroom and covered pavilion on site.

Accessibility

The beach is a short, flat walk from the parking area, with a rinse hose for dogs nearby.

Pets

A 24 acre off-leash dog beach, open 6am to sunset daily, free, with an 8 foot leash required to be on hand even during off-leash play.

Weather & the best time to visit

Spring and fall bring the mildest weather for this stretch of the Treasure Coast. Summer's heat and hurricane season, June through November, are the main things to plan around.
