Wasque Beach
Edgartown, MA
Wasque is the southeast tip of Chappaquiddick, a Trustees of Reservations property where the island's beach meets a strong tide rip. The shoreline is open Atlantic with cliffs of sand behind it, and you get there by taking the little On Time ferry from Edgartown, then driving or biking the sandy roads. Some of the island's best surf fishing is here.
A ferry ride and end of the road feel make it a true Vineyard destination, but the current is strong, there are no lifeguards, and it is not a swimming beach.
How we score beachesSwimming is dangerous here because of strong currents and there are no lifeguards. Keep this one for walking, fishing, and looking, not for a swim.
Trustees vehicle parking is $25 for non-members, and people arriving on foot or by bike get in free (as of the most recent published rates). Getting here requires the Chappaquiddick ferry.
Reaching the beach means a short soft-sand walk from the parking area. There are no lifeguards, and swimming is hazardous.
Bluefish and striped bass runs draw anglers in late spring and fall. Summer days are warm, but the rip current stays powerful year round.
