Westport Light State Park
Westport, WA
Westport Light State Park covers 560 acres with frontage on both the open Pacific and the calmer water of Half Moon Bay, connected by a mostly paved 1.3 mile path out to the Westhaven jetty. The historic Westport Lighthouse sits at the far end, and Half Moon Bay is the rare spot on this coast where locals actually wade in without worrying much about current.
The paved trail system, working lighthouse, and rare calm-water option at Half Moon Bay make this a genuine local favorite, not just a tourist stop, though the open side stays too rough to swim most of the year.
How we score beachesStick to Half Moon Bay if you actually want to get in the water. The open Pacific side gets real winter shore break and rip currents that make it a walking beach, not a swimming one.
A Discover Pass is required for day-use parking.
The path to the lighthouse and jetty is paved and mostly flat. A boardwalk connects to neighboring Westhaven State Park, both stroller and wheelchair friendly for most of the route.
Winter brings dramatic surf and storm watching on the open side. Summer is calmer and better for wading at Half Moon Bay.
