Willard Beach
South Portland, ME
Willard Beach is South Portland's city beach, a curved stretch of sand beside Southern Maine Community College with Spring Point Ledge Light nearby. The water is shallow and calm, and the crowd is mostly neighbors, dog walkers, and year round swimmers. It has a neighborhood feel that is hard to find so close to the city.
A real neighborhood beach with easy city access and a lively local crowd, though parking is tight in summer.
How we score beachesWalk the shoreline path to Spring Point Ledge Light. The breakwater walk is short and gives a good view of the harbor.
Small lots and street parking serve the beach and fill quickly in summer. Check posted rules for permits.
A short walk from street parking to soft sand.
Water stays chilly even in August. Fall and winter draw local walkers and hardy swimmers.
