Wollaston Beach
Quincy, MA
Wollaston Beach runs along Quincy Shore Drive for over a mile, the largest public beach in Boston Harbor and a state managed favorite for South Shore families. A promenade parallels the sand, ample roadside parking fills up quickly on hot days, and the low tide flats stretch surprisingly far out on Quincy Bay.
Locals love the free parking, the promenade, and the sheer length of the beach, though the big tidal flats mean the water is only inviting near high tide.
How we score beachesSwim closer to high tide, when the flats are covered and the water is deeper. At low tide, the walk out is long and muddy in places.
Free roadside parking runs along the promenade on Quincy Shore Drive. It fills up on summer weekends.
A paved promenade runs along the beach with easy access to the sand from the lots. The beach surface is regular sand.
Lifeguards work the beach in summer, and the water is warmest in August. Winter walks along the promenade are popular too.
