Beachtown
Galveston, TX
Beachtown is one of Galveston's newer beachfront developments, a planned community on the island's far east end next to the 700 acre East End Lagoon Nature Preserve. Several free access points along the neighborhood lead to the beach by trail or boardwalk, and the preserve next door means this stretch has actually been widening rather than eroding.
A genuinely wider, less crowded stretch of sand thanks to its spot next to the nature preserve, though the lack of restrooms or showers means it's better for a short visit than a full day.
How we score beachesPair the beach with a walk into the East End Lagoon Nature Preserve next door. Kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching are all part of the same trip out here.
Free parking is available at multiple access points throughout the neighborhood.
Trails and boardwalk walkovers connect the neighborhood streets to the beach, though there are no public showers or restrooms.
Summer draws the most visitors, with Gulf water in the low to mid 80s. Hurricane season runs June through November.
