Blue Mountain Beach takes its name from one of the highest points on the Gulf coast, a genuinely elevated stretch of dune along 30A's western half. The public access here is popular enough that its small lot fills quickly despite Walton County requiring a permit for dogs on the sand.

The elevated dune and genuine scenic character explain its popularity, though the small lot and advance dog permit requirement take some planning ahead of a visit.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Get the dog permit online through Walton County Parks ahead of time rather than trying to sort it out beachside, it's required and carried in advance. Arrive early, the lot is small relative to how popular this stretch has become.

Parking

A small public lot serves the beach access; it fills quickly given the area's popularity.

Accessibility

The access point has a short, flat path from the lot to the beach.

Pets

Dogs require a permit obtained in advance from Walton County Parks; leashed and permitted dogs are allowed on the beach.

Weather & the best time to visit

Spring and fall bring the mildest Panhandle weather and thinner crowds. Summer's heat and hurricane season, June through November, bring the biggest crowds despite the warmest water.
