Cap de Creus Natural Park Coves

Cap de Creus Natural Park sits at the easternmost tip of mainland Spain on the Costa Brava, a landscape of wind carved rock and hidden coves that once drew Salvador Dali to paint the coastline. Cala Jonquols and Cala Culip are among the quieter stops along the park's rugged shore, reached mostly on foot or by boat rather than by a direct road.
A genuinely dramatic stretch of protected coastline with real solitude in its quieter coves, though the wind and rugged access mean it takes more planning than a typical Costa Brava beach day.
Go on a calm day if possible. The tramuntana wind that shaped these rock formations can also make the water choppy and the exposed trails uncomfortable to hike.
Parking is limited near the park's main access points, with many of the coves reachable only by hiking trail or boat rather than a direct road to the water.
Trails to most coves are rocky and uneven, following the natural coastline rather than a maintained path, not suited to strollers or limited mobility.
June through September brings the warmest water and calmest conditions for visiting the coves, though the tramuntana wind can pick up suddenly at any time of year and is worth checking before a hike.
