Constance Beach
Cameron, LA
Constance Beach sits along Cameron Parish's Gulf Beach Highway (LA 82), about seven miles west of Holly Beach's crowds. It draws shellers more than swimmers, especially after a storm churns up the shell beds offshore. There's no boardwalk, no snack stand, and often no one else on the sand for a quarter mile in either direction.
A real shelling spot once you know when to go, but there's nothing here beyond the beach itself, no facilities, no shade, and no lifeguard if something goes wrong.
How we score beachesLow tide after a Gulf storm is when the shelling gets good here. Regulars check the marine forecast and time their trip a day or two after a blow comes through.
Pull off directly along the LA 82 shoulder, there's no formal lot. Space is never an issue since so few people stop here.
It's a short walk of soft sand and shell hash from the highway shoulder to the water, no steps or boardwalk, but the loose shell can be tough going for a stroller or wheelchair.
Southwest Louisiana's hurricane season runs June through November, and this stretch of coast has no dunes or development to blunt a storm surge. Late spring and fall bring the calmest water and the best shelling after winter fronts push through.
