Cypremort Point Beach
Cypremort Point, LA
Cypremort Point Beach is the state park beach on Vermilion Bay in St. Mary Parish, a half mile of man made sand built where the natural coast is otherwise solid marsh. It's one of the few places between Grand Isle and Cameron where you can actually drive up and swim in salt water. Boats far outnumber swimmers most weekends.
One of the only drive up saltwater swimming spots in this part of the state, but the beach itself is small and man made, and the entrance fee and distance from any town keep it from being a regular stop for most.
How we score beachesThe entrance station mostly runs on cash or check for the per person fee, so bring some before you drive the 20 plus miles down from Franklin or New Iberia.
A gravel lot sits right behind the beach inside the park gate. It rarely fills, even on weekends, since the fee and the drive keep casual traffic down.
Flat gravel and grass lead straight from the lot to the sand, no stairs to the beach itself, though the separate marsh boardwalk nearby is a different walk entirely.
Louisiana State Parks policy keeps dogs off designated swimming beaches even on leash, though leashed pets are fine elsewhere in the park.
Vermilion Bay stays warm enough to swim from late spring through early fall, and the flat water makes it a favorite for beginner sailors and kiteboarders on breezy afternoons. Hurricane season, June through November, is the same stretch locals watch closely given how exposed this point is.
