Fort Island Gulf Beach
Crystal River, FL

Fort Island Gulf Beach sits at the end of a long causeway west of Crystal River, a small, manmade beach that's more about the sunset view over the Gulf than serious swimming. Crystal River itself is better known for its winter manatee season than for beaches, with hundreds of manatees drawn to the area's warm spring-fed waters between November and April.
The sunset view off the causeway is a genuine local pleasure, but the beach itself is small and manmade, well behind the area's real draw of swimming with manatees elsewhere in Crystal River.
How we score beachesCome for sunset if the beach itself feels thin, the causeway out to the point makes for one of the better unobstructed water views on this stretch of the Nature Coast. Book a manatee swim tour separately if that's the real draw, the beach and the manatee encounters happen in different parts of the wider Crystal River area.
Parking is available at the beach's lot at the end of the causeway, typically free or low cost.
A paved causeway and lot lead directly to the small beach area, flat and easy going the whole way.
Check current signage for pets, policies aren't consistently documented for this county park.
Winter, November through April, is peak season for the area's famous manatees in the warm spring waters nearby, though the Gulf beach itself is better suited to visiting in the warmer months. Summer brings hurricane season, June through November.
