Fourchon Beach
Port Fourchon, LA
Fourchon Beach, at the end of LA 1 past Port Fourchon, is one of the only real surf breaks anywhere on the Louisiana coast, a fact that keeps a small, dedicated crew coming back despite a rough couple of decades. Storm damage and oilfield infrastructure have opened and closed access here more than once. It's a working coast beach first and a recreation beach second.
The closest thing Louisiana has to a real surf spot, which counts for a lot with the small crowd that chases it, but on and off access over the years means it's never something to plan a trip around without checking first.
How we score beachesAccess here has changed more than once due to storm damage and restoration work, so call the Greater Lafourche Port Commission or check current local reporting before making the drive.
Parking has historically been informal along the beach access road near the port; conditions and openings change, so confirm current access before heading out.
Where open, it's a flat, direct walk from the road onto the sand, with no boardwalk or formal facilities.
Hurricane season, June through November, has repeatedly reshaped and closed this beach over the years, so it's more exposed to storm impact than most Louisiana beaches. Fall and winter cold fronts can bring the area's best, if still modest, wave conditions.
