Gasparilla Island State Park
Boca Grande, FL

Gasparilla Island State Park covers the southern tip of Boca Grande, a mile of Gulf beach split across five separate parking areas, Sea Grape, Range Light, Seawall, and Dunes among them, each dropping onto the same contiguous sand. The 1890 Port Boca Grande Lighthouse anchors the south end, with a small museum inside during open hours.
The lighthouse, the surf breaks, and five different ways onto the same beach give it more character than a typical mile of sand, though Boca Grande's exclusive, expensive-to-reach reputation keeps it from feeling like anyone's secret.
How we score beachesSea Grape and Dunes are the two lots surfers use to paddle out, worth knowing if you want the beach without the board traffic. Boca Grande Pass right off the point is a serious tarpon fishing spot in season, so expect boat traffic offshore even when the beach itself is calm.
The entrance fee is collected per vehicle at the gate, with five separate lots spread along the point. Range Light and Seawall tend to fill first since they're closest to the lighthouse.
Each lot has a short, flat walk of a few dozen yards to the sand, no boardwalk needed since the beach sits right at grade with the parking areas. The lighthouse itself has stairs and isn't accessible beyond the ground floor.
Leashed dogs are welcome on the walking and biking trails but not permitted on the beach or inside the lighthouse.
Spring tarpon season brings boat traffic offshore and a busier beach, while summer's heat and hurricane season, June through November, thin the crowds some afternoons. Winter is Boca Grande's high season for a different crowd entirely, mild and dry.
