Henderson Beach State Park

Henderson Beach State Park runs almost a mile along Destin's Emerald Coast Parkway, buffered from the road by high dunes and slash pine woods that keep the beach feeling separate from the hotels around it. A boardwalk crosses the dune line to reach the sand, and sugar white quartz sand with clear green water are the main draw.
The dune buffer keeps it feeling wilder than the development surrounding it, though the new reservation requirement means locals can no longer just show up on a whim.
How we score beachesAs of May 2026 the park requires a reserved day use pass ahead of time instead of first come parking, bookable up to 60 days out on the state parks reservation site. Reserve early for weekends in summer, since spots do run out.
Entrance runs 6 dollars per vehicle for 2 to 8 people, 4 dollars for a single occupant, and a day use pass must now be reserved in advance rather than paid at the gate.
A boardwalk with ADA access crosses the dunes from the main lot straight to the sand. The walk is flat and shaded part of the way by scrub pine.
Dogs are allowed at the campground on a leash, but pets aren't permitted on the beach or playground.
Summer brings the warmest water and the thickest crowds along this stretch of Destin, while spring and fall keep the beach just as scenic with a fraction of the people. Hurricane season runs June through November.
