Island Road Launch at Pointe-aux-Chenes
Pointe-aux-Chenes, LA
The Island Road launch sits on the 2.5 mile road between LA 665 and Isle de Jean Charles, inside the Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area southeast of Houma. The renovated ramp is 30 feet wide into six to seven feet of water, with five fishing pier sites along the road. It's a public, no frills way onto the marsh, not a beach.
A recently rebuilt public ramp with piers and real marsh access is solid for anglers, but there's no sand and the area floods in storms.
How we score beachesThe lot holds about a dozen truck and trailer rigs, so arrive early on a nice weekend. Parts of the WMA are paddlecraft only, which makes it good kayak territory.
The launch has parking for up to 12 trucks with trailers and one accessible space, with additional launch spots along Island Road and LA 665. The pin is approximate, so follow Island Road from LA 665.
One accessible parking space at the launch and fishing piers along the road, built by the state's restoration program.
Fall and spring are the comfortable seasons on the marsh, and summers are hot and humid. Hurricane season, June through November, has repeatedly flooded this road, so check conditions.
