Kiluan Bay

Kiluan Bay sits at the southern tip of Sumatra in Lampung province, Indonesia, a fishing village turned dolphin watching destination where bottlenose and spinner dolphins pass through in migrating pods most mornings. Locals take visitors out before dawn in small wooden ketinting boats, and the beaches around the bay double as nesting grounds for green and hawksbill turtles.
The dolphin encounters are a real, reliable draw that few other Indonesian beaches can match, though the long drive from Bandar Lampung and early wake up call keep it from being a casual outing.
Book the dolphin watching trip for around 6am. The dolphins are most active early, and June and July are the most reliable months to see large pods.
Kiluan Village is roughly three hours by car from Bandar Lampung, and there's informal parking near the boat launch where boatmen wait for dolphin tours.
The beach itself is a flat, easy walk from the village, though the dolphin excursions require boarding a small open boat, which isn't suited to limited mobility.
The dry season from May through September brings calmer seas for the boat trips, with June and July considered peak dolphin season. The wetter months from October through April bring rougher water and less reliable sightings.
