King Fisher Beach sits at the end of Park Street in Port O'Connor, a family beach on Matagorda Bay known specifically for water so shallow that kids can wade out a hundred yards and still stand. It's a low key spot, a fishing pier and a volleyball court alongside the covered picnic areas, built for a slow afternoon rather than a big scene.
The uniquely shallow, safe water for kids makes this a real local favorite, though the limited parking means it can fill up faster than the beach itself suggests.
How we score beachesThe shallow water here is the whole reason to come. It's one of the few spots on this stretch of bay where genuinely small kids can play in the water without anyone worrying.
Parking is free, though it's limited, so arrive early on a busy weekend.

Summer is the season for the shallow water swimming this beach is known for, while fall brings better fishing. Hurricane season runs June through November.
