Long Beach
Cameron, LA
Long Beach runs along its namesake road off LA 82 in Cameron Parish, one more link in the chain of small, mostly unmarked beaches between Constance Beach and the Texas line. Like the rest of this stretch, the shelling picks up noticeably after a Gulf blow pushes debris up from the Mississippi Delta. There's no development to speak of, just the road, the marsh, and the water.
Fine for a quiet stop while working the coast for shells, but it's functionally identical to several beaches within a few miles of it and offers nothing that would make it a destination on its own.
How we score beachesBring a five gallon bucket if shelling is the goal. The best material tends to wash up a day or two after a storm passes, not during it.
Park along Long Beach Road itself; there's no formal lot and no fee.
A short, flat walk over sand from the road shoulder to the water, with no paving, steps, or boardwalk anywhere along the way.
Hurricane season, June through November, is the main event on this exposed stretch of coast, and the calmest, clearest water usually shows up in the shoulder months on either side of it.
