North Beach
Corpus Christi, TX

North Beach sits across the ship channel from downtown Corpus Christi, a mile and a half of white sand on the calmer bay side, right next to the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington. The water here is protected and mild compared to the open Gulf beaches further south, which is what makes it the pick for families with younger kids.
The calm water and family amenities make it a dependable pick, but it doesn't have the open Gulf feel or surf that draws people further down the island.
How we score beachesPair a morning at the beach with the aquarium or the Lexington tour next door, most visitors do both in the same trip since they're a short walk apart.
Parking is free along the boardwalk and surrounding streets, with no permit or fee required.
A paved boardwalk runs the length of the beach, flat and stroller friendly, with a playground and splash pad at the north end.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
Bay water warms fast in spring and holds into fall, generally a few degrees warmer than the open Gulf beaches nearby. Hurricane season runs June through November.
