Rowell's Waterfront Park

Rowell's Waterfront Park is Key Largo's own small bayside beach and boat launch, a plainer, more local counterpart to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park's bigger reef-focused draw just down the road. Its eight acres make it an easy stop for a quick swim or a picnic without the state park's entrance fee.
The genuine dog-friendly policy and no-fee access are real pluses compared to the state park nearby, though it's a small, plain spot better for a quick stop than a full beach day.
How we score beachesLeashed dogs are welcome here, unlike Pennekamp's stricter rules, making it the better bet if traveling with a pet in Key Largo. The swimming area is calm and shallow, better suited to wading and a quick dip than serious swimming.

Winter through spring is the Keys' driest, most popular stretch. Summer brings warmer water and hurricane season, June through November, with fewer crowds on weekdays.
